Etruscan Tombs of the “Ara del Tufo”

The hypogeal (i.e. underground) tombs of this Etruscan necropolis are just one of the many clusters scattered throughout the area: Ara del Tufo, Frassineta, Vincolo, Grottino della Bandita, Poggio della Vena, Franco and Pezzo Tufo, Pignano, Grottini di Rota, Grotta di Tabacco. The necropolises are therefore the testimony of a series of Etruscan settlements of agricultural subsistence that probably belonged to a single centre, currently still unidentified, but certainly linked to ancient Caere, the current Cerveteri.
